Offroad Caravans
Offroad Caravans
What defines an Offroad Caravan?
Mountain Trail RV Off-Road caravans are designed to be driven on the rough, corrugated and varied Australian road conditions..
Generally heavier than other types of vans they are also manufactured to withstand the extreme rocky and corrugated roads of the Outback.
Mountain Trail RV vans whilst offering full-off-road capability, are also sensational to drive on the freeways and highways connecting our large country.
Hybrid or Full Width.
Hybrid Caravans are a smaller lightweight variant that allows easy towing and as the wheel tracks match that of most 4WD’s, maneuvering and off-road touring is made easy. MTRV Hybrid caravans are designed around an outdoor lifestyle with kitchen / cooking generally outdoors. Dining, Sleeping and bathroom facilities are located within the climate controlled interior of the van. One touch electric open/close awnings are a standard feature of our range.
Full-Width Caravans are generally larger than the towing vehicle with the wheel tracks generally wider those of most 4WDs available in Australia. Full-width vans have the sleeping, kitchen / cooking, dining and bathroom facilities located within the climate controlled interior of the van. MTRV full-width caravans can also be fitted with outdoor cooking facilities at an option. As with the hybrid range, one touch electric open/close awnings are a standard feature of our range.
Tandem or Single Axle
The Mountain Trail RV range of off-road caravans are available in both single axle and tandem axle configurations.
Single axle vans provide a lighter weight and generally easier to manoeuver. Consideration needs to be made on how much weight both your tow vehicle and caravan is able to carry with generally less payloads being able to be towed. Significantly more 4WD’s on the Australian market can be used to tow our single axle MTRV caravans and campers.
Tandem vans provide better driving stability on the road. They are generally heavier in weight but at the same time the vans can carry more payload. MTRV tandem caravans offer more internal features and storage over the hybrid range of vans. 4WD’s that can tow over 3 tonne should be considered for these range of vans.
Dust suppression
Australia’s outback roads feature dust, dust and more dust.
All Mountain Trail RV campers, hybrid vans and full-width caravans are fitted standard with a dust suppression system.
As soon as you connect the van to your towing vehicle, a fan is activated that pumps fresh filtered air into all areas of the cabin including all of the internal storage bunkers.
No dust will enter your van whilst this system is activated.
Added to that, all of our newer vans are fully sealed and manufactured without a gas stove or gas heating. This means no external door vent is required.
This smart design feature enhances the performance of the dust suppression system.
Manufacturing: Aluminium Cabinetry & Composite Walls / Roof
Our range has been designed specifically for Australian conditions.
The chassis in all models is manufactured in house by our highly skilled welders out of Laser cut Australian steel. These are then hot-dip galvanized for a durable rust-free finish.
Our unique aluminium cabinetry is then built onto the chassis where laser cut parts are CNC pressed and riveted together to create a monocoque internal skeleton. No wood or joinery is used within this process to create a frame that will resist fatigue caused when driving on corrugations.
MTRV caravans are also constructed out of Composite panels. With an XPS foam and fibreglass skin, we CNC (Computer Numerically Controlled) cut whole panels to also ensure strength and durability. This composite material provides a lightweight yet super strong exterior material that also provides insulation to the cabin of the van.
The white colour reflects heat in hot Australian conditions and the foam provides insulation should a van be used in colder parts of the country.
